me so crafti

Hello my pritti's,
I've been in nesting mode and feeling very creative and crafty. I have a whole slew of "must do" that I have compiled over the years. I know many of us are like that. You just need to get down to it and start... or get pregnant! haha

Here is a project that I worked on this weekend for the baby room. I found this old wood frame at my sister's hobby farm near her barn. You can do so much with these frames, like insert mirror, fabric, chalk board or just plain old cork! It all depends on what you need it for and what your budget is.

My budget: The frame was free, I spent $12 on a pack of 4 cork tiles and $20 for the paint. It sounds expensive, but I will be using the paint for  some furniture in the baby room, so it's worth it.

My materials: Frame, paint, brush, sand paper (corse), hammer, small nails with flat heads (x16), carpenters glue, reinforcement board, cork tiles, exacto knife.

It took a few days between the paint and glue to dry, but it's finally done! Here are the steps I took:

Take your old frame, clean the debris and old glass on the edges. Sand down to get all the shards of wood off. Brush with a dry brush before painting to get rid of all the dust and particles.
Paint frame with melamine based paint, may need 2 coats depending on the look you are going for. I let each side dry for 1 day (as you can see I also had to repair a piece of the wood that was coming out, I used wood glue for that).
When it's dry, sand the paint if you are looking for a rough look.
Place cork on the back side of the frame and cut pieces to fit the proper space.  The cork tiles I bought came in a thicker style, but didn't measure out perfectly.

Nail in the cork on the ends. Be careful not to pierce through the board on the front side!
Use wood glue and glue reinforcement boards on the back if necessary. I found this board in our workshop.
Finished back side of the board

Presto! Finished cork board!
I can't wait to hang this up and put some pics of the family for the baby room :)
I hope you enjoyed this post. Leave me your comments below.

pici of the weeki-6

Hello my prittis,
Yes, it's been a while, but I still love you! I have been busy with my o'valley blog, so I am still here.
I am sharing with you my pici of the weeki that was submitted by an avid reader ;)

This picture is very interesting, and kind of dark with the evil grin on the heel, the hidden young lady and the black cloud above her. Maybe this is just in time for Halloween!

It was taken in the South of France at the hotel marquis de Sade.
Thank you for sharing this original piece!

Have a happi thanksgiving my prittis.

pici of the weeki- 6

Hello my prittis! It's time for pici of the weeki. I love this part of the week, because it mean I am off for the weekend! The thing I like most about this picture is how much fun the model is having. It's seems so light and colourful. I also like the use of the lolli. This picture is a little bridal too, so there is something for everyone!
Get inspired this weekend and goodluck to all those summer brides!

pici of the weeki 6

It's Friday today! It not only means that it's TGIF, but it also means that it's time for pici of the weeki!

Here is it folks! Punta Cana 2007. Greatest trip ever!
This pictures not only reminds me of the good times we had, but it also reminds me of the movie "The Beach", which so happens to be one of my favorite books too!

This picture was taken by the resort photographer. It was really expensive to purchase, but I had to buy it!!!

B.T.W- it's really hard to get everyone to jump at the same time, let alone jump really high. The trick is to bend your legs back ;)

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!

pici of the weeki-5

Hello my prittis.
I know it's a little late, but here is my pici of the weeki!
This is my one million dollar shot. This picture is not photoshopped, it's an original, by moi!
Everything was perfect, the lighting, the shiny concrete from the rain, the sun coming out out the clouds. It's the best souvenir I brought back from Paris, that and my Longchamps bag of course :)

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

pici of the weeki-4

Hello my prittis.

I've been bad. Really bad. I have neglected you all. I have been busy, and a little uninspired is all. Not to worry. I have the pici of the weeki to push me along.

Moving on. This is my pici of the weeki, brought to you by Stephanie Tudin Photography (Ottawa). You can find her on Facebook. I will let you know if there is a website...

I think this shot is very hip, urban and fresh. It just resinates "cool girl". Sometimes we all have an urge to just fell like we're hot shit. This picture does that for me.

What makes you feel hot and cool?

Don't forget to contact me if you want to be the next pici of the weeki!

Have a great weekend my prittis!

Hello my prittis.

I can't believe it's already that time again. Here is the pici of the weeki. I just love this picture! It's so much fun. I love the tones of the colours in this picture and just the quirkiness of it all. I really like the pink of the cotton candy and the striped bikini too :)

Thank you to Kim Vandermeer for submitting this picture :) Here is a link to her blog.
Kim is a talented photographer in Ottawa. I have done a photoshoot with her in the past!

pici of the weeki-2

I realize that it's a bit early, but I am going away this weekend and I wanted to make sure that I took care of you!

So this week we have Wedding Polaroids provided by a great friend from my childhood! Not sure if she wants to remain anonymous, so for privacy sake, I will omit her name!

Basically, I love these pictures and the raw colours that are captured. Again it's a simplicity thing. No fancy lighting, natural poses, one shot deal, what you see is what you get!

When you get it right the first time, it's priceless!

Thank you for submitting to pici of the weeki!

I hope you all enjoyed these.
Don't forget to share your favorite pics with me! Who knows, you could be next!

Have a great weekend!

pici of the weeki

This is my picture of the week! I want to start featuring my favorite images and sharing them with you!
This was taken in a photobooth (obviously) in a cute restaurant in Brooklyn. Nat, if you see this... please remind me the name of this place.

The reasons why I like this picture:
- I remember being in elementary school and going to the mall on weekends. Taking pictures was a regular thing to do. Then you would fight over who would get which picture. Natalie and I disputed as to who got the picture. I obviously got the jpeg :P
- I love how much fun you can have in 2 minutes. You can just get crazy and make the funniest faces. The crazier you are the better your pictures get.
- Cramming as many people as possible in the photobooth is always the best challenge.
- Getting all those people to fit in the picture is another challenge.
- Checking yourslef out in the glass as the pictures are being taken.
- Impatiently waiting for the pictures to come out after you are done... and being surprised every time!

I think this is why it's important to hold on to simple things and not dismiss them when a new gadget comes along.

Have a great weekend!
